Tinubu Pledges to Shield Nigeria’s Media, Backs Obaigbena’s New Digital Platform
President Bola Tinubu has thrown his weight behind Nduka Obaigbena’s new digital media platform. He called it a home-grown innovation and vowed to protect Nigeria’s media ecosystem from foreign tech dominance. Speaking at an interfaith breaking of fast with NPAN, NGE and BON leaders, Tinubu promised to review tariffs on newsprint and broadcast equipment. He urged journalists to hold state and local governments accountable now that they receive funds directly. The President defended his economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, as necessary to avert collapse. He thanked critics for pushing him to act and declared that Nigeria is steadily recovering. Information Minister Mohammed Idris added that the government is engaging Google and Meta to ensure fair compensation for Nigerian editorial content.
