Omorinsola Babajide has reiterated the Super Falcons’ ambition to claim an 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations crown when the tournament kicks off in Morocco this July. She stresses that this year’s finals also double as Africa’s qualifying event for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Babajide insists that the pressure on the defending champions remains the same whether competing for continental glory or a World Cup spot. “As professionals, we know what we signed up for and we want to retain our trophy,” she said. With the WAFCON field expanded to 16 teams, the challenge is even greater. Nigeria opens Group C action against Malawi at Rabat’s Al Madina Stadium on July 28, aiming to continue its unbroken World Cup qualification streak since 1991.
