Lagos to Commission Egan and Ipaja Housing Estates by Year-End

Lagos to Commission Egan and Ipaja Housing Estates by Year-End — 1 of 2
1 / 2

The Lagos State Government is stepping up efforts to finish and hand over the Egan Housing Estate and other developments before year-end. The Commissioner for Housing inspected the 632-unit Egan Estate, the Lagos State Workers’ Village at Command Ipaja, and the Beacon Apartments in Ipaja. He said Egan Estate is now 85% complete despite earlier contractor delays. Electricity, water reticulation, and sewage systems are also ready. Work is accelerating on the Ipaja projects through a public-private partnership. Affordable pricing measures allow homeowners to finish non-essential interiors themselves. Recreational facilities and a neighbourhood mall will be in place before commissioning. Solar-powered water pumps are planned to cut operating costs.

The inspection of Egan Estate and Beacon Apartment sounds thorough, but there's a history of delays in similar Lagos housing projects.

I appreciate the effort, but the government should focus on basic infrastructure and public amenities before delivering those estates.

To ensure timely handover, Lagos could set up a transparent weekly progress report system accessible to stakeholders and local residents.
