UK Train Crash Near Bedford Injures 89 and Kills One Driver
Two passenger trains collided near Bedford on Friday evening, killing one driver and injuring 89 others. The Nottingham–London St Pancras service had stopped due to a safety fault before being hit from behind by a Corby–London St Pancras train. Emergency crews declared a major incident, with police, firefighters, paramedics and air ambulances rushing to the scene. Eyewitnesses described chaos inside the carriages after a loud boom, with many passengers bleeding and unable to move. One traveller said most of her carriage was wounded, and another compared the aftermath to a bomb explosion. Investigators are examining why the first train stopped and how the rear collision occurred. Rail operators have urged passengers to avoid affected routes while recovery work and inquiries continue. Support is being provided to the injured and the families of those involved. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased driver.
