Pentagon: U.S. Has Spent $25 Billion on Iran Conflict in 60 Days

A senior Pentagon official told Congress the U.S. has already spent about $25 billion on Operation Epic Fury as the Iran conflict passes the 60-day mark. Acting Comptroller Jules Hurst III testified that most of the cost covers munitions, operations, maintenance and equipment replacements. He said a formal supplemental funding request will go to Congress once a full cost assessment is complete. Lawmakers pressed for a detailed breakdown of how American taxpayer funds have been used. In March, Pentagon figures showed $11.3 billion spent in the first six days. Rising global gas prices and closed shipping lanes at the Strait of Hormuz add urgency to the debate, while Congress approaches the 60-day limit under the War Powers Resolution.

I understand the defence needs, but it feels premature to label this high expenditure as effective without seeing clear results.

Budget planners should track spending against measurable outcomes, ensuring munitions and equipment costs align with defined mission objectives over time.
