Fubara Opens Upgraded Neuropsychiatric and General Hospitals in Obio/Akpor
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has inaugurated an upgraded neuropsychiatric hospital and a new general hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The remodelled neuropsychiatric facility includes rehabilitation services for substance abuse and mental health patients, male and female wards, consulting rooms, a laboratory, pharmacy, recreational spaces and an electroconvulsive therapy centre. Fubara said the upgrade was prompted by the poor condition of the former facility and concerns that its premises had become vulnerable to drug trafficking. The new general hospital provides accident and emergency care, maternity and paediatric wards, operating theatres, an ICU, laboratory, X-ray services, pharmacy and 100 general ward beds. Both facilities have been equipped for diagnosis and treatment and received ambulances. Fubara urged residents and local authorities to protect the hospitals, while officials called on the public to avoid stigmatising people seeking mental health care.
