NELFUND Rejects Claims That Student Loans Favour APC Supporters
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has denied claims that its student loan scheme favours supporters of the All Progressives Congress. NELFUND Managing Director Akintunde Sawyerr described the allegation as “completely ridiculous.” He said the electronic application process only requires applicants to provide details such as their names and matriculation numbers, and has no feature for identifying political affiliation. Sawyerr said eligible students in public institutions are assessed based on the scheme’s stated criteria, not their political party, religion, ethnicity or gender. He added that demand for the loans has been overwhelming.
