South African Boxing Champion Zolani Tete Shot Dead Outside His Home
Former two-division world boxing champion Zolani Tete has reportedly been shot dead outside his home in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Police said two armed suspects ambushed Tete and a 27-year-old female passenger at about 6:30 p.m. while he was returning from the gym. Tete reportedly drove into his yard while trying to escape but later died from his injuries. Tete held a 29-4 professional record with 22 knockouts and set the Guinness World Record for the fastest world-title knockout after stopping Siboniso Gonya in 11 seconds in 2017. He had recently completed a four-year ban and was preparing to return to the ring.
