A man in China accidentally swallowed a five-inch metal chopstick while eating in 2018. He refused surgery at the time and lived with it lodged in his throat for eight years. This March, worsening pain made him seek help at Dalian Municipal Central Hospital. Doctors used a minimally invasive technique to remove the utensil through his mouth, avoiding a neck incision. The patient’s vocal cords and throat lining were unharmed. He was discharged days later and is expected to make a full recovery.
