Nigerian Troops Repel Boko Haram Ambush, Rescue Teen Girl and Eight Others in Borno
Troops under Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State foiled a follow-up Boko Haram assault and rescued nine captives in the Mandara Mountains. Among those freed was a 16-year-old girl who had been forced into marriage by a militant commander. The 82 Division Task Force Battalion at Ngoshe first secured the same group earlier in the day. Terrorists then attacked from the Gava axis around 10:20 a.m., hoping to re-abduct the rescued victims. Disciplined and coordinated firepower from the troops decisively repelled the militants. All survivors received first-aid treatment and are in military custody for further care and debriefing. Military authorities say the wider theatre remains calm but unpredictable, and they remain committed to offensive operations that deny terrorists freedom of action.
