Yetunde Wunmi Reflects on Past NDLEA Case and the Loss of Her Only Child

Veteran Yoruba actress Yetunde Wunmi has spoken about two of the most painful periods of her life: her past NDLEA case and the death of her only child. She said she repeatedly questioned how she found herself in the situation after her 2006 arrest at Lagos airport. Wunmi said she had dreamt about the incident twice but did not take the dreams seriously. The actress was arrested on suspicion of cocaine trafficking, convicted and later released from prison in 2008. She described the experience as her greatest regret, saying she lost her privacy, popularity and some friendships. Wunmi said support from the Association of Nigerian Theatre Practitioners helped her rebuild her career. She added that humility and refusing to let her past define her were important to her recovery.
