Plane Slices Paraglider’s Canopy Mid-Air but Reserve Chute Saves Her
A paraglider had a terrifying brush with death when a small Cessna sightseeing plane cut through her main canopy over the Austrian Alps. The incident occurred near Piesendorf in the Salzburg region on May 23. Video from the pilot’s helmet camera shows the aircraft approach from behind before its wing and propeller tore through the parachute just above the woman's head. Lines wrapped around the plane and fabric drifted away over the mountainside. The 44-year-old pilot immediately deployed her emergency reserve chute and landed safely on a forest road with only minor bruises. Police say the Cessna pilot landed without injury and the cause of the mid-air collision is under investigation.
