French Bulldog Dies After Protecting Owners During California Bear Attack

Cassie, a seven-year-old French bulldog, died after intervening when a bear attacked her owners outside their rural home in Trinity County, Northern California. Jeff Wilson went outside after hearing Cassie barking at about 4am and was attacked by the bear. His wife, Mallory, was also injured when she came outside. Cassie reportedly placed herself between Jeff and the animal before the bear carried her away. Mallory threw a chair at the bear while Jeff struck it with a patio heater, forcing it to release Cassie. The couple suffered serious injuries and Cassie died two days after emergency surgery. Wildlife officers are investigating and trying to locate the bear.
