Federal Ministry Says Alakija Interchange Bridge Was Not Vandalised
The Federal Ministry of Works says the Alakija Interchange Bridge on the Lagos-Badagry corridor has not been vandalised, contrary to claims in a viral video. A joint team from the Federal and Lagos State Ministries of Works inspected the site after reports alleged that scavengers were removing reinforcement from the bridge. Officials said the structures shown in the video were bridge piles undergoing a normal engineering process known as jacketing. According to the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the rough surfaces are expected because the piles were designed to sit below ground level. The contractor is expected to begin jacketing work next week, while residents have been urged to avoid living or carrying out activities under bridges.
