1 / 4

Centre for Agripreneurship and Cooperative Research/Practice (CACORP) at Nnamdi Azikiwe University teamed up with TEVA Foods for a tree planting programme on June 23, 2026. The initiative underlines a shared commitment to environmental sustainability, agricultural innovation, and youth empowerment. The delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor before planting activities. The VC praised TEVA Foods’ support for agripreneurship, while the company’s CEO highlighted value-addition opportunities and youth training in climate-smart farming. Held under the theme “Planting Trees for Posterity, Climate Action and Prosperity,” the event featured insights on apple seed cultivation and the economic potential of dried fruits. Speakers stressed the role of Nigeria’s 10.9 billion trees in carbon regulation and called for greater investment in agribusiness. University leaders and state officials commended CACORP’s efforts in cooperative development and food security. Distinguished guests joined the tree-planting exercise, distribution of seedlings, and recognition of partnerships that drive sustainable agriculture.

It's promising to see CACORP and TEVA Foods team up, but I wonder if they've planned how to measure seedling survival and genuine community benefits.

I'm not convinced that tree planting alone addresses climate action if they don't involve farmers in choosing tree species that suit local soil.

They could integrate agripreneurship workshops alongside planting, teaching participants how to grow marketable crops under tree shade for extra income.
