Appeal Court Upholds Conviction of Former NEXIM MD Roberts Orya
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the conviction of Roberts U. Orya, a former managing director of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM). In a unanimous decision delivered on 8 September 2026, the appellate court dismissed Orya’s appeal against the judgment of the FCT High Court. The court held that the appeal lacked merit and affirmed the lower court’s decision of 5 February 2026. Orya, who led NEXIM between August 2009 and February 2016, was arraigned by the EFCC in November 2021 on a 49-count charge involving alleged fraud and abuse of office. He was accused of using his position to obtain loans from the bank.
