Delta State Government Opens Trial of Justice Okogwu’s Alleged Killers
The Delta State Government has commenced trial at the High Court in Asaba. Two suspects, Godwin Mngumi and Nnaji Abalum, face a four-count charge of armed robbery, conspiracy and murder. The offences are alleged to have occurred on November 27, 2025, at the home of retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu. Her brutal killing shocked the community and raised fresh concerns about security in Delta State. At the trial’s opening, Attorney-General Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, and Solicitor-General Omamuzo Erebe, SAN, confirmed investigations are complete. They emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting lives and securing justice. Defence counsel Ernest Edomwonyi of the Public Defender’s Office and E. I. Opiah entered not guilty pleas for their clients. The judge adjourned proceedings to April 14, 2026, for the prosecution to call witnesses.
