Did Jehovah’s Witnesses Change Their Position on Blood Components?
I am raising this discussion because I believe many Jehovah’s Witnesses may not be aware of a recent clarification on blood components. Older Watchtower material states that accepting whole blood or its four primary components—red cells, white cells, platelets and plasma—violates God’s law. My understanding is that the newer guidance treats the use of certain blood-related treatments as a matter of personal conscience. I believe this represents a major shift from the earlier position, since modern transfusions often involve specific blood components rather than whole blood. The screenshot shared here is from an older Watchtower publication and describes the previous teaching. I welcome Jehovah’s Witnesses and others to explain whether the current guidance has changed, and how members are expected to understand it in medical emergencies.
