Atiku Tells Wike: Rivers Voters Aren’t Political Slaves
Atiku Abubakar has rejected Nyesom Wike’s claim that he would secure less than 10 percent of votes in Rivers State during the 2027 presidential election. He emphasized that no individual, regardless of influence, can decide how an entire state will vote. Atiku’s aide, Phrank Shaibu, said Wike’s remarks expose concern within President Tinubu’s camp over a growing opposition coalition under the ADC. He argued that Nigerians care more about the rising cost of living, insecurity, and economic hardship than political forecasts from government officials. Shaibu insisted that Rivers residents are independent-minded and will cast their votes based on competence and their hopes for the future. He urged Wike to focus on explaining ongoing economic and security challenges rather than making election predictions. According to Shaibu, the 2027 vote will serve as a verdict on current policies and the performance of those in power. He remains confident that no amount of political grandstanding can sway the electorate’s will.
