Why I Support Makurdi Diocese’s Expulsion of 14 Seminarians
Reports that 14 seminarians were expelled by the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi have stirred debate online. I was present at the 2026 diocesan priestly ordination linked to the controversy, and I also once began the journey towards the priesthood before being withdrawn. From what I witnessed, the issue was not simply the use of iPhones. Some seminarians allegedly used their phones, chatted during Mass and failed to kneel during the Litany of the Saints while priests, bishops and the congregation knelt. I support the bishop and the seminary formators. Priesthood demands discipline, reverence and obedience to church rules. Anyone who believes the rules need reform should follow the proper process rather than disregard them during worship. Future priests should be held to a high standard because their conduct can shape the faith and spiritual lives of many people.
