Enugu Smart Schools: Reported Roof Failures and Cracked Walls Raise Questions Over ₦464.7bn Allocations
Enugu’s Smart Green School programme was designed to deliver 260 technology-driven schools across the state. However, a May 2026 investigation reported incomplete work, roof damage, cracked walls and other structural concerns at several sites after pupils had reportedly begun using some facilities. The reported cases include schools in New Haven, Ishielu Amagunze, Amofia Nara, Iheaka, Orba and Mbu in Isi-Uzo. The state government reportedly ordered the demolition of one defective structure and terminated a contractor over alleged cracks and failed integrity checks at another site. About ₦464.7 billion was reportedly allocated to the programme across the 2025 and 2026 budgets. Enugu residents deserve clarity on how much was released and spent, who received the contracts, how the projects were supervised and certified, and what steps will be taken to protect pupils and recover any funds lost to defective work.
