Northerners Demand Tinubu Correct Yoruba Bias in Federal Appointments
Several northern organisations have criticised President Tinubu’s latest federal appointments, arguing that too many key roles have gone to Yoruba from Lagos State. They say this pattern in finance, security and other sectors undermines Nigeria’s federal character. The Arewa Youths Integrity Network and Northern Youth Council highlighted posts like Acting Accountant General and security agency heads, calling for more qualified northerners. They warn that regional favouritism could erode national unity. The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria joined the call for an inclusive appointment strategy. As of now, the presidency has not responded to these concerns.
