Salihu Lukman Cites Kaduna Power Struggle as He Suspends ADC Membership

Salihu Lukman Cites Kaduna Power Struggle as He Suspends ADC Membership

Salihu Lukman, a former APC National Vice Chairman for the North-West, says he suspended his membership of the African Democratic Congress over persistent hostility and frustration within the party. He alleged that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and other associates repeatedly sidelined him from decisions on the party’s leadership and structure in Kaduna State. Lukman said the move was not a protest against the ADC’s national leadership. He also warned that some figures in the opposition coalition were repeating the same political practices they once criticised. According to him, this could undermine the ADC’s cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections. Lukman said he would use the break from active party politics to consider his next steps, while acknowledging the efforts of the party’s national leaders.

What does Lukman's suspension say about the ADC's ability to manage internal disagreements, especially with prominent figures involved?

Do we know whether this reflects a wider party issue or just a dispute limited to Kaduna?

The statement reflects how quickly party alliances can become strained when members feel persistent hostility rather than room for dialogue.

ADC leaders should clarify the issues publicly and create a credible internal process before the dispute causes further defections.
