FG Launches USSD Loan Service for Food, Solar and Other Needs
The Federal Government has introduced SPARK, a USSD service that lets Nigerians apply for consumer loans using a mobile phone, without an internet connection. The initiative is being run through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) and is intended to serve groups including traders, workers and young people. To access the service, dial *347*333#. The programme is reported to cover food and household essentials, solar energy, smartphones, laptops, transport, furniture and healthcare. However, CREDICORP has not confirmed that every loan category is immediately available through the USSD service. CREDICORP says it had facilitated more than ₦61.4 billion in consumer credit for 353,561 Nigerians as of October 31, 2026. These are loans, not grants, and borrowers are expected to repay under the agreed terms. Will the service offer affordable credit, or add to the financial pressure many Nigerians already face?
