My Girlfriend Expected Me to Support Her Family While I Was Still in University
I rushed into several relationships without taking enough time to understand my partners or what we truly wanted from each other. My first serious relationship became emotionally draining, while another left me feeling like I was expected to fund not only my girlfriend’s lifestyle but also her family’s needs. I believed being a man meant I had to provide everything in a relationship. That mindset made me stay in situations that felt one-sided and unhealthy. I also made mistakes, including seeking attention outside a relationship instead of ending it sooner. A later relationship showed me what genuine care and support could look like. However, I learned that kindness alone is not enough without attraction and compatibility. I now want to take things slowly and find a partner I can genuinely grow with.
