My Aunt Raised Me, but I Hide My Earnings From Her

After losing my mother and being abandoned by my father, my aunt took me in and raised me. I will always be grateful for the food, shelter and education she gave me. But she also constantly reminded me that I was not her biological child and made me feel guilty for needing anything beyond the basics. As I got older, I started finding small ways to earn my own money. From writing letters for classmates to freelancing in university, I learned skills that helped me support myself. My income has paid for things my aunt would never approve of, including a laptop, better food, clothes and personal care. I now hide my earnings and my lifestyle from her because I fear she will try to control my money or force me to stop working. I love her and know she gave me a chance at life, but I also want the freedom to build savings, finish university and eventually live independently.
