Karma and Power: The Lecturer Who Paid for Criticizing El-Rufai

Power can change quickly. In 2016, Mr John Danfulani, a lecturer at Kaduna State University, was jailed for publicly criticizing then-Governor Nasir El-Rufai. His family and friends begged for mercy, but no one acted to secure his release. Recently, El-Rufai’s wife was seen in tears during a public appearance. Yet years ago she never intervened for Danfulani’s wife, who pleaded desperately for her husband’s freedom. Today, Danfulani is free. This story shows how those who ignore others’ suffering may one day face their own reckoning.
