Katsina Health Insurance Enrollment Rises to 583,460 as State Expands Coverage

Katsina State says enrollment in its health insurance scheme has risen from 355,000 beneficiaries in 2023 to 583,460 in 2026, a 64% increase in three years. Governor Dikko Umaru Radda announced the figures while launching enrollment for 184,105 beneficiaries under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund across the state’s 361 wards. He said the programme is aimed at reducing out-of-pocket medical costs for poor and vulnerable residents. The governor also said health insurance is now mandatory for government employment programmes. About 98% of state and local government workers have reportedly enrolled, while retirees, persons with disabilities, Hisbah personnel and community watch members receive free cover from the state. The state said it has upgraded health facilities, expanded drug-supply financing and introduced specialised services, including cancer treatment and dialysis centres, as part of its push for universal health coverage.
