Sweden’s Elias Ymer Retires After Collapsing Twice During China Challenger Match
Swedish tennis player Elias Ymer collapsed twice during his opening-round match against Taiwan’s Hsu Yu-hsiou at the Zhangjiagang Challenger in China on September 1, 2026. Ymer had lost the first set in a tiebreak and was leading 5-3 in the second when he suddenly fell while returning to the baseline. He briefly got up before collapsing again, prompting officials and medical staff to intervene. He received treatment and tried to continue, but retired with the second set level at 5-5. The ATP said severe nausea, extreme weather and high humidity contributed to his physical exhaustion.
