ICRC, Nursing Council Develop Course to Prevent Violence in Healthcare Settings
The International Committee of the Red Cross and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria are developing a continuing professional development course to help nurses prevent and de-escalate violence in healthcare settings. The course is expected to cover communication skills, early warning signs, appropriate intervention and personal safety. It is intended to help nurses respond to tense situations while protecting patients, colleagues and their ability to provide care. The programme was discussed at a three-day workshop in Abuja for nursing experts and practitioners. The organisers said violence should not become a normal part of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
