Abure Warns NDC Over Aisha Yesufu’s Fundraising for Peter Obi
Former Labour Party chairman Julius Abure has warned the Nigeria Democratic Congress against allowing individuals or support groups to raise campaign funds for Peter Obi without the party’s knowledge and approval. He said unapproved fundraising could create legal problems and undermine the party’s authority, recalling disputes over campaign donations in the Labour Party after the 2023 elections. The warning followed activist Aisha Yesufu’s launch of an initiative asking Nigerians to contribute to Obi’s 2027 presidential campaign. Yesufu said supporters should help share the campaign’s financial burden. NDC spokesman Osa Director said he believed Yesufu had the blessing of the party leadership, although he said he was not aware of the fundraising initiative. He added that the party would make its position known through the appropriate channels if it had concerns.
