Should Nigeria Demand Equal Extradition Terms From the United States?

Nigeria should review its extradition arrangements with Western countries, especially the United States. The current system can appear one-sided when Nigerians may be transferred abroad to face trial while Americans accused of crimes in Nigeria are not treated the same way. The United States often relies on its own laws and jurisdiction when dealing with its citizens. Countries such as China and North Korea are also unlikely to surrender their citizens for trial in the US, including in cases involving alleged cybercrime. If extradition agreements are not reciprocal, Nigeria should push for terms that protect its sovereignty and guarantee equal treatment for its citizens.
