U-23 Eagles Invitee Daniel Ihendu Eyes Olympics and World Cup Glory
FC Zurich defender Daniel Kelechi Ihendu says his call-up to Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles is a major step towards his dream of playing at the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup. The 21-year-old said he drew inspiration from Nigeria’s 1994 World Cup side and the Atlanta 1996 Olympic gold-winning Dream Team. Ihendu, who previously played for Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig, can operate at centre-back or as a libero. Nigeria will face DR Congo in a two-legged U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in November 2026. The winner will reach the 2027 U-23 AFCON in Egypt, which will determine Africa’s representatives for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
