South Africa Says Nigerian Visa Applications Have Nearly Doubled Despite Safety Concerns
South Africa’s Consul-General to Nigeria, Prof. Bobby Moroe, says visa applications from Nigerians have nearly doubled despite concerns about attacks on foreign nationals. Speaking on a Nigerian radio programme, Moroe said South Africa remains open to Nigerians travelling for tourism, business and other legitimate purposes. He urged visitors to obtain the proper visa, obey local immigration laws and understand their rights. The consul-general also advised Nigerians to know how to contact law-enforcement agencies while in South Africa. He rejected claims that the country is broadly hostile to migrants, despite continuing concerns over violence targeting foreign nationals.
