The Contract Offer That Nearly Landed Me in a Kidnap Scheme
I was referred for a contract opportunity by a staff member who knew he didn’t qualify. The client claimed to be an international university starting construction in Atan, Ogun State. They asked for our CAC certificate, TIN, directors’ IDs, evidence of past projects and details of our manpower. I only spoke with them directly on Feb. 2, just before a site meeting set for Feb. 9. They told me to sleep over because of crowding and paperwork. When I arrived at 5 a.m., their contact disappeared and directed me through several streets until I grew suspicious. They then brought me to a young man in a jalabiya who called himself “Alfa.” I demanded his ID and insisted we go to the police. Neighbours gathered and some youths began attacking me alongside the suspects. I held onto the “Alfa” until police arrived. At the station, I asked for a proper investigation. The officers only made the suspects apologise and warned them to be careful. I still have chat logs, photos and videos as proof.
