Hamzat Urges Engineers to Put People at the Centre of Lagos Infrastructure Planning
Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has urged engineers to design infrastructure around the safety, productivity and everyday needs of residents. He said roads, bridges and drainage systems should be judged by how well they connect communities, protect homes and create opportunities. Speaking through the Governor’s Special Adviser on Infrastructure at the Nigerian Society of Engineers’ quarterly dinner in Lagos, Hamzat said the state needs resilient and sustainable infrastructure as its population grows. He called for planning that links transport, land use, drainage, energy, technology and environmental management. He also urged engineers to contribute to policy, maintenance and sustainable development while upholding competence and integrity. At the event, the society admitted 102 engineers as fellows and charged them to mentor younger professionals and maintain ethical standards.
