Teslim Balogun Stadium Renovation: Lagos Prepares for a Modern All-Covered Venue
Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere stands on the site of the former UAC Stadium, which hosted memorable Principals Cup finals and Ramat Cup competitions in the 1970s and early 1980s. Those tournaments helped build strong school and community football rivalries across Lagos and also served as a pathway for young players. Construction of the present stadium began in 1987 but stalled for years during the economic crisis. The project was revived under the Bola Tinubu administration and the stadium was eventually completed and commissioned in 2007. The ongoing renovation is designed to modernise the facility with a fully covered seating area, hospitality suites, a new exterior façade and roof-mounted floodlights. Critics have raised concerns about the pace of work since it began in 2024, but the Lagos State Government says the stadium will be ready to host the Intermediate Games in September 2026.
