Manchester United Post Record £677.6m Revenue but Debt and Losses Remain
Manchester United reported record revenue of £677.6 million for the 2026 financial year, up from £666.5 million in 2025, despite missing out on European football the previous season. The club recorded an operating profit of £22.6 million, but its pre-tax loss rose to £43 million. The improved Premier League finish helped the figures, while higher matchday prices and previous cost-cutting measures also boosted income. United finished third after Michael Carrick’s successful spell as interim manager, having finished 15th the season before. However, the club’s gross debt stands at about £689 million, with transfer-related debt estimated at a further £350 million to £400 million. Interest payments were close to £70 million for the year, raising fresh questions about how United will fund a proposed 100,000-seat stadium that could cost up to £2 billion. As a United supporter, it is frustrating that even record revenues and commercial strength are being overshadowed by debt servicing instead of more investment in the squad and facilities.
