Sunderland defender Thomas Meunier has criticised the scale of modern football transfer fees after his former Lille teammate Ayyoub Bouaddi reportedly joined Manchester City in a deal worth about €100 million. Meunier praised the 18-year-old midfielder’s ability but argued that transfer valuations no longer consistently reflect a player’s quality. He said clubs can spend huge sums on the wrong player while finding excellent talent for far less. Bouaddi played alongside Meunier at Lille before the reported move. The Belgian defender is also expected to come up against his former teammate in future Premier League fixtures.
