Justice Before Mercy: Why Nigeria Must Punish, Not Reward, Terrorists
In Nigeria, captured terrorists and bandits face harsh treatment. Yet those who surrender are often called “repentant” and reintegrated into society. This creates a dangerous message: crime pays while victims continue to suffer. True peace requires accountability. Those who commit kidnapping, murder, and terror must face the full weight of the law. Stricter penalties and stronger enforcement will deter criminals and protect communities. The government must also support security personnel and victims. Better intelligence, improved equipment, and genuine political will are urgent. Rehabilitation has its place, but it must never replace justice for serious crimes. As elections near, every Nigerian should secure a voter card and demand leaders committed to ending insecurity. Our nation deserves competence and accountability to ensure a safer future.
