Akure Court Sentences Woman to Jail for Stealing Ex-Boyfriend’s Toyota Sienna, Orders ₦2.8M Compensation
An Akure Chief Magistrates Court has convicted a woman for unlawfully converting and selling a Toyota Sienna belonging to her United States–based ex-boyfriend. The court heard that the complainant imported the vehicle for business use in 2020 and left it in the defendant’s care while abroad. She then allegedly forged documents, including a fake marriage certificate, to claim ownership and sold the car for ₦2.8 million. After reviewing registration papers and other exhibits, the magistrate found her guilty under Section 388 of the Criminal Code. She received a one-year jail term, with the option to pay a ₦100,000 fine, and must also repay ₦2.8 million to the complainant.
