NEMA, Fire Service Urge Stronger Fire Prevention and Emergency Response in Kaduna

The National Emergency Management Agency has urged stronger collaboration, investment in prevention and faster emergency coordination to reduce fire disasters in Kaduna State. At a stakeholders’ meeting in Kaduna, NEMA identified electrical faults, gas explosions, unsafe handling of petroleum products, naked flames, bush burning and poor storage of combustible materials as common causes of fires. It also noted that congested settlements, poor access roads and delays in reporting emergencies can worsen losses. The Federal Fire Service said many organisations have fire safety equipment that is no longer functional because it is poorly maintained. Agencies and community stakeholders pledged to improve public awareness, maintain firefighting facilities and strengthen emergency response across the state.
