Police in Abia State have arrested a man accused of defiling a nine-year-old girl in Umuana Ndume, Umuahia North. The girl was reportedly seeking food when the alleged incident occurred on August 16, 2026. A human rights group said community youths apprehended the suspect two days later after he allegedly refused to open his door and the child was found outside. The Abia State Police Command has been commended for intervening. The case has also renewed calls for stronger protection of children and firm action against sexual violence.
