OPay Eyes $4bn US IPO After Processing $358bn in 2025 Transactions

OPay says it processed $358 billion in gross transaction value in 2025, more than double the $166.2 billion recorded in 2024. Its monthly active users reportedly rose 57% to 39.3 million, while revenue grew 161% to $536.3 million as the fintech moved from an operating loss to a $107.1 million operating profit. The company is reportedly preparing for a possible US initial public offering that could value it at about $4 billion. Citigroup, Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan Chase are expected to work on the proposed listing, which could take place later in 2026. OPay’s lending business also expanded sharply, with new loans rising to $938.3 million in 2025. However, the proposed New York listing has sparked debate because Nigeria generated 88.1% of the company’s revenue, raising questions about why a major Nigeria-built fintech would seek its public-market debut abroad. If successful, the listing could become a major milestone for Nigeria’s technology ecosystem and create a pathway for other African fintech firms seeking global capital.
