Insecurity in Nigeria: A Living Hell for Millions
If misery on earth meant misery in the afterlife, most Nigerians would already be doomed. Thankfully, our fate depends on our deeds, not our hardship. Yet today, Nigeria feels hellish. It is not the heat or hunger that makes life unbearable. It is the constant, end-less fear. Bandits tax and terrorize farmers. Ordinary citizens live in two “governments”: one official and one run by kidnappers. Women and girls are raped openly. Men risk their families’ safety each night. Victims like Aisha, held six months in a kidnappers’ den, bury the dead—sometimes even their own children. Her testimony in a leading local paper shows the unspeakable cruelty. Amid this horror, calls to negotiate with bandits insult our humanity. The government must act now to restore safety. Only then can Nigerians hope to emerge from this living nightmare.
