Bassey, Osimhen and Ndidi Take Up Leadership Roles at European Clubs
Calvin Bassey captained Fulham in their Premier League opener against Chelsea, adding his name to the growing list of Nigerian players trusted with leadership roles abroad. Although Fulham lost 3-2, the armband reflected Bassey’s increasing importance to the London club. Victor Osimhen has also been reported as part of Galatasaray’s leadership group ahead of the new season, while Wilfred Ndidi serves as vice-captain at Beşiktaş. William Troost-Ekong also brings established leadership experience from club and international football. The development gives the Super Eagles more players accustomed to handling pressure, organising teammates and taking responsibility in major matches. It also highlights the growing respect Nigerian footballers command at top clubs outside the country.
