NDC Spokesperson Reacts as Senators Hanga and Gaya Prepare to Join APC
Theo Abu Agada, the Nigeria Democratic Congress spokesperson, has described the planned defection of Senators Rufai Hanga and Kabiru Gaya to the All Progressives Congress as “extremely painful.” The reaction followed the politicians’ visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. They were accompanied by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, with reports indicating they may formally join the APC next week. The expected defections are linked to dissatisfaction over party decisions ahead of the 2027 elections. Hanga and Gaya were reportedly unhappy after failing to secure their preferred party tickets, while Gaya was said to have lost out to a consensus candidate supported by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s political camp. Both men had earlier met with APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, further fuelling speculation about their move to the ruling party.
