Eid‐el‐Fitr: ACF Warns Nigeria Still the World’s Poverty Capital
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed deep concern that Nigeria—especially its northern region—remains the “poverty capital of the world.” Despite official claims of improvement, most citizens face entrenched economic hardship and political marginalisation. ACF noted that the Ramadan fast and Lent coincided with rising insecurity across all three northern zones. Banditry, extremist attacks and extra-judicial actions by some authorities have fuelled despair and threatened social cohesion. The Forum urged political leaders to prioritise good governance over electioneering. It called on aspiring 2027 candidates to adopt prudence and restraint and to support security agencies in dismantling criminal networks. ACF appealed to Nigerians to stay resilient, continue praying for positive change and hold leaders accountable until living conditions improve.
