Customs Says Onne Bonded Terminals Rise From Six to Over 20
The Nigeria Customs Service says it is strengthening trade facilitation, revenue protection and cargo clearance at Nigerian ports as part of the Federal Government’s blue economy agenda. At a World Maritime Day seminar in Port Harcourt, the Onne Area Command said the number of operational bonded terminals in its area has grown from about six six years ago to more than 20. The command said the terminals now play a key role in reducing port congestion, improving cargo delivery, creating jobs and supporting revenue collection. Stakeholders called for faster, more digital cargo-clearance processes to reduce delays, multiple charges and uncertainty for importers. They said inefficiencies at the ports raise the cost of doing business and ultimately affect Nigerian consumers.
