Ex-Major General Umaru Mohammed Escalates Appeal to Supreme Court in Army Funds Dispute
Ex-Major General Umaru Mohammed has asked Nigeria’s Supreme Court to review the Court of Appeal’s February 9, 2026 decision in his ongoing dispute with the Army. His initial appeal against a Special Court Martial conviction for alleged misappropriation of funds partly succeeded before a three-member panel. Mohammed was Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited when the Special Court Martial found him guilty of misusing company funds. He argues that the Chief of Army Staff, who approved every expense, has not faced any charges. Describing his trial as a “witch-hunt,” Mohammed likens his position to a bus conductor held responsible for an accident while the driver goes free. He has filed Motion No. CA/ABJ/PRE/ROA/CR/174MI/2026 seeking to set aside portions of both judgments, but his legal team remains silent pending the court’s ruling.
